Sleep Deprivation with a Newborn

Sleep deprivation is something that all parents suffer from at some point. With a newborn baby, you sort of expect it, but you hope that in the not-too-distant future, your lovely baby will sleep through the night. However, it is not always the case

I am happy to say that my boys are pretty good sleepers now, but that hasn't always been the case. And now my brother and sister-in-law are really suffering, as their toddler has never slept through the night. He sleeps in the same room as them because of lack of space in their house, so when he is up, they are both up.

Tinies Sleep Expert - Alison Scott-Wright

I watched with interest the Channel 4 documentary Who Knows Best about two sleep experts who have different approaches to helping families get their children to sleep through the night.

And my main interest was because one of the experts was our very own Tinies nanny, Alison Scott-Wright.

Alison is known as the magic sleep fairy, as she has helped hundreds of families with their babies and toddlers. Alison has a no-nonsense approach, and believes in training the child to sleep, without any aides, or even comfort.

Controlled crying

There is always lots of debate about whether doing "controlled crying" is a good or even safe approach to getting a child to sleep. I have used it in the past, and it worked for me.

It may not be the right approach for all, as it is tough love, and it gets worse before it gets better.

Alison Scott-Wright believes her approach is best, and the tough love approach brings quicker results.

At Tinies, we have a range of sleep experts who can work with the family, and come up with the approach that works best for the family. If you'd like to know more about hiring a sleep consultant for your newborn baby, please get in touch.
