An exciting and forward thinking nursery based in Twickenham and Chiswick are offering a new type of childcare for families in London. The nursery for and educate children aged from 2-5, following the core Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, incorporating learning in an outdoor environment where free play, fresh air, exposure to the natural world and physical activity are an integral part of learning.

Due to our nursery being a forest nursery, there are physical demands of this role. The
work is practical by definition and requires moderate levels of physical effort. It involves lifting and handling of training equipment, play equipment and other resources and to be involved in practical activities and physical care of learners and the physical woodland environment.

Activities are mainly out of doors and this will require walking and managing on uneven surfaces and in unpredictable weather conditions. You are required to be a role model for the staff and
learners you work with, adhering to the Health & Safety procedures

As a Deputy Manager, you'll be tasked with;

  • Providing a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for the children aged 2-5 years, in our beautiful outdoor setting.
  • You'll work with your team to create an enabling environment where children can develop and learn through play.
  • You'll use your existing skills, experience and passion for outdoor education to deliver a fantastic experience for our children
  • Promote the nursery ethos and help to make it the best it can be.
  • Be involved in out of working hours activities, e.g. training, monthly staff meetings, and

in work hours and outside

Key Responsibilities

1. Adhere to any relevant policies about keeping children safe, ongoing safeguarding,
equal opportunities, data protection and confidentiality, effectively being the deputy safeguarder
2. Advise the Manager of any concerns, e.g. over children, parents, the safety of the
environment, preserving confidentiality as necessary
3. Read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to your role and
the safe running of the setting
4. Keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or
other staff that is acquired as part of the job
5. Ensure good standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times

Care & Education
1. Supervise, observe, mentor and support children aged 2-5
2. Be responsible at all times for high standards of care and education
3. Effectively deliver the EYFS ensuring that the individual needs and interest of children
in the setting are met (in conjunction with other team members)
4. Ensure the provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual
children having an awareness of any disabilities, family cultures and medical histories.
5. Keep records of your key children's development and learning journeys and share with
parents, practitioners and other key adults in the child's life.
6. Take regular photographs of all children for records and their Tapestry Journal and
complete an observation sheet for each child.
7. Support the manager in 2-year-old checks, assessment on entries and
assisting/planning for SEN children
8. Develop and maintain strong partnerships and communication with

The successful candidate will:
• Experience of working in a nursery/private day care setting as either a Room Leader
or Deputy Nursery Manager
• Preferable experience within outdoor education environment (desirable)
• A relevant childcare qualification for the role (Minimum NNEB, NVQ3/Diploma 3)
• Knowledge and experience of working within and implementing the EYFS statutory framework
• Knowledge and understanding of the safeguarding children obligations
• Highly organised, driven and motivated team-player
• Ability to adapt quickly to changes and interact with children, team-members and parents for different purposes and different contexts
• Approachable and caring with a passion for working with children and the outdoors

Salary: £24,000-£27,000 depending on experience
Hours- 40 hours a week
