Experienced Nursery Manager Kelso

Kelso- An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Nursery Manager at a well established nursery. The nursery has been operating for many years and is well known for its fantastic forest areas for which it was awarded the winner of the NMT 2019 Nursery Outdoor Learning Environment Award. As the nursery is in the Scottish Borders there will be relocation support for the right candidate who may want to make the move into the area.

Ideally qualified with a BA in Childhood Practice or equivalent or SCQF Level 9, or willing to work towards it, you will be resilient and adaptable to change, you will be a creative thinker with a strengths-based approach to problem solving and communication

What you will be doing

Ø Deliver outstanding care to all the children in your setting

Ø Lead and manage the staff team, including responsibility for recruitment and retention, providing day to day guidance, training, and support.

Ø Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Nursery.

Ø Achieving very high standards of quality care and education; ensuring that all children attending the setting are kept safe and receive rich and stimulating play experiences appropriate to their age and stage of development.

Ø Provide new starters with tailored inductions maintaining the high standards of the nursery

Ø Ensuring all policies and procedures are implemented, updated and adhered to at all times; including ensuring that all legislation in relation to Care Inspectorate registration, Child Protection, special needs, safeguarding and Health and Safety are complied with.

Ø Keeping up to date with current early childhood thinking/trends

Ø Ensure that healthy, nutritious food is offered at all times

Ø Schedule and maintain staff rosters and ratios and ensure that staff are deployed effectively to ensure the smooth running of the nursery providing a high standard of care.

Ø Review and monitor occupancy levels to ensure they are maintained to maximum capacity. Proactively market the nursery to meet these objectives.

Ø Skilled in marketing and increasing and managing optimal occupancy within the nursery

Ø Maintaining positive parent liaison programmes; to be influential in developing strong links with parents and carers

Ø Have key holder responsibility

The Ideal Applicant

Ø able to lead self-evaluation in the nursery and develop and lead improvement

Ø Full and Relevant Level 3 or above Early Years qualification and ambition to achieve BA in Childhood Practice or equivalent

Ø Working knowledge of Connect Nursery Management System or similar

Ø Strong knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding, Child Protection, and the wider legislative requirements for working with children

Ø Proven experience of working in early years education settings with successful management leading to 'Good or better' regulatory inspection outcomes

Ø Full, clean driving licence

Ø Experience of Recruitment and HR procedures


This role will start ASAP and in line with all professional expectations you should be a member of the SSSC and PVG Schemes. The salary will be £40K along with a sign on bonus and along with regular performance bonuses available.
