Job description

 
Our client, a well-established setting in Bellshill, is recruiting for a qualified Early Years Practitioner.

Responsible to: Nursery Principal and Head of Centre

Purpose of post
• To provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children, which is warm and welcoming for all children attending the nursery.
• To plan deliver and evaluate an appropriate learning environment for our nursery children.
• To be a motivated staff member working with our young children, at the same time to work as part of a team within the playroom and within the nursery.
• To implement the daily routine in the playroom.
• When working with our young children you should demonstrate a resilience for those who may have challenging behaviours, implementing early intervention plans when required.
• To liaise with parents through purposeful communication when necessary, including meeting and greeting time as well as parent appointments etc.
• To keep up to date with childcare developments through reading relevant resources, checking appropriate websites, attending staff training as well as relevant CPL courses when available.
• To complete all paperwork within the nursery to an articulate level, keeping it neat and tidy at all times.
• There will be times when as a member of staff you demonstrate authority to maintain appropriate behaviours when working with young children.
• To be a positive role model and always have a pleasant manner when communicating with everyone within the nursery environment. Whilst building positive relationships with children and families nevertheless understanding personal boundaries.
• All staff are responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of our children in all aspects of their young lives.

Duties and responsibilities
1. To be a key person and update children's learning journals weekly along with planning, observations, and relevant next steps.
2. To keep an accurate record of achievement file for our children. Identifying children's individual needs, abilities and progress, using these effectively for future planning.
3. To plan and organise activities and experiences which will support and extend children's learning in line with Pre-birth to Three Curriculum, Curriculum for Excellence and NLC expectations.
4. To maintain an up to date knowledge of child development and the early years sector enabling the nursery to maintain up to date practices for our children and their families.
5. To work in partnership with all our families both formally and informally.
6. To communicate and engage with children to support their speech and language development.
7. To be professional and communicate effectively with all working personnel both within the nursery and with other agencies and early years professionals.
8. Work with parents of children with additional support needs, to give full integration in the nursery.
9. To work with children, parents and carers to plan for and support key transitions.
10. To maintain confidentiality as appropriate but also to cascade relevant information when necessary.
11. To take the delegated leadership responsibility in attainment areas i.e., numeracy, literacy or health and wellbeing to identify development areas for the nursery and implement these through the annual improvement plan.
12. To be involved in ALL out of working hours activities, e.g. training, monthly staff meetings, summer fayre, Christmas party, etc.
13. To be flexible within working practices of nursery. Be prepared to help where needed, including to undertake certain domestic jobs within the nursery, e.g., preparation of snack meals, cleaning of equipment etc.
14. Work alongside the management team and staff team to ensure that the nursery's philosophy is fulfilled.
15. To follow all policies, procedures, risk assessments and Child Protection Policies, Health and Safety guidelines written within the nursery. And ensure up to date practices from CIS, HMIE and North Lanarkshire Council are in place.
16. To develop your role and personal development within the staff team.
17. To ensure the provision of a high-quality environment to meet the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds, and stages of development.
18. To be aware of the high profile of the nursery and to uphold their standards at all times.
19. To maintain a professional approach when working with peers and when representing the nursery at meetings etc.
20. To undertake any other reasonable requests by the management team which are necessary for the smooth and efficient running of the nursery.
