Our Favourite Last Minute Christmas Gifts

Tired of being asked if you've started your Christmas shopping? Here are a few Christmas gift ideas to get you started, or finished, depending on your list

Christmas shopping is a concept that excites some, and fills others with an immense level of dread. Whether you are someone who shops all year round or does a blitz the week before Christmas, there will always be at least one person you've overlooked.

We all have that one person on our list that we struggle to find the right gift for, or who pops up at the last minute. If you're looking to be a little more unique than the book and bag of pistachios Dad usually finds under the tree, or need a last minute gift for your child's teacher - look no further.

Christmas gift ideas for the whole family

We've been searching for innovative, family-friendly gifts for everyone on your list this Christmas.

Framed hand and foot prints

A keepsake memento of a snapshot in time is a great gift for parents or grandparents. Whether you make it yourself or have someone do it professionally, framed hand or footprints are a heartfelt gift that will last forever.

If you are doing this yourself, make sure to give yourself lots of time to get things right as small hands and feet don't always stay put the way our own do - and it will need time to dry!

Alternatively, you can purchase similar products from craft websites like Etsy. Products like this start at around £25.

This is just one idea; we've seen people frame event tickets from the day baby was born, or the top 40 chart from that week. Find something which will have meaning for both you and the individual you're giving it to!

Crown chewels - teething jewellery

Crown Chewels Teething NecklaceNew mums need not leave all their accessories behind this year, as Crown Chewels combine fashion and practicality.

No more worrying that your beads are choking hazards, or constantly taking your jewellery away from baby. Whether this gift is really for mums or babies is still to be determined!

All 11 designs, ranging from £30-65, can be purchased from www.crownchewels.co.uk.

Happy hopperz

Happy Hopperz Christmas RangeFrom trying these out at an event to placing them in our nurseries, HappyHopperz is a collection of inflatable animals that will keep children of all (and we mean all) ages busy.

Created with ears and horns for children to grip on to and feet to steady the bounce, these animals come in a variety of different styles and colours that will brighten up any Christmas morning!

Retailing at £21.99, they can be purchased from most high street retailers, independent stockists and directly from Happy Hopperz.

Super hero kits

Whether your child is a budding architect, the next Nicki Clarke, or an inspired botanist, why not provide them with all the tools they need to build a fort, sculpt a masterpiece, or nurture next years' geraniums? Make or purchase a draw string bag and assemble all the elements of their trade in one place. Take the time to personalise things where possible; sew their initials on the bag, or on the appropriate apparel.

For example, if you're fostering the next Nicki Clarke, here's a list of items to consider:

  • Hair brush
  • An assortment of clips, ties, bands and ribbons
  • Comb
  • Apron with pockets.

Chukka belts Chukka Belts

From past experience we know there is always someone on your list that is hard to buy for. You want something that is fun but useful, so when we stumbled across Chukka Belts, we knew a few people would be finding these under the tree this year.

These belts combine durability, flexibility, and stretchiness in colourful combinations and will satisfy everyone from the most discerning gentlemen to edgy teenagers.

At only £12.95 each these belts are a steal, and can be purchased online from www.chukkabelts.co.uk.

Eisberg wines

Know a conscientious individual who's expecting but would love a glass of wine over the holidays? Eisberg's winemakers have produced a range of fresh and fruity wines containing 0.05% alcohol and only 33 calories per glass. We were pleasantly surprised at how tasty the varieties were.

From the ruby rich Cabernet Sauvignon and the aromatic Riesling to the crisp Chardonnay and fruity Rosé we didn't feel like we were missing out on anything - especially the hangover the next day!

This is a great hostess gift for mothers-to-be over the holiday; you'll impress them with how much thought went into your gift, and they can feel like they are part of the party!

The full range of wines is available in Morrisons. Selected varieties are available from Asda, Waitrose, and Booths stores and retail at approximately £3.50.

Cinnamon sticks

Do you have a gourmet chef (or someone who thinks they are) on your list? Know someone who likes a dusting of decadence on top of their coffee, or spiced chai? We stumbled across Cinnamon Hill in our adventures this year and were wowed with how much more flavour comes from these cinnamon sticks versus the cinnamon we've tasted from the supermarket.

The strong, and distinctly different (Sri Lanka and Vietnam) flavours from these fresh cinnamon sticks made our taste buds tingle. Sold on their own, or as part of a starter pack, these make a great stocking stuffer or substantial gift under the tree.

Cinnamon sticks and starter packs can be purchased from the Cinnamon Hill website and range from £6 to £52.

Cookies in a jar

Everyone turns up with home baking or shop bought treats over the holidays, but there are only so many things we can eat before they go off! When we saw this recipe in a cookie jar, we realised they were just the solution.

Rather than doing the baking yourself, have you or your child measure all of the dry ingredients into a clear glass jar (with a tight seal) and write out the instructions for what needs to be done next (i.e. how much water or how many eggs you need to add). Your host will get a beautiful gift that has longevity as well as sweetness!

Make your own Christmas hamper

Cinnamon Sticks

If you know someone who like films or the colour green, buying a few small items to put together in a basket or box shows that a great deal of thought went into a Christmas gift.

If it's a movie theme, why not throw in some microwave popcorn, a voucher for Play.com and a warm fleece blanket?

Or if you're going with a colour, some woolly socks, a pair of mittens and a tube of lip gloss. Maybe you have someone moving home or starting a new hobby - think about the individual and you'll show them you've been listening, and give them a kick start on the next project.

Good luck with your Christmas shopping!

This is the second time I've used Tinies and they've impressed me both times. The service is far better than other agencies. They take the time to understand your requirements so that they can match candidates to the post. Really easy dialogue and a refreshing honesty.
