Our Favourite Lessons We've Learned From Our Children

Sometimes it's nice to sit back and reflect on the things we've learned as parents. The lessons our children have taught us and will continue to teach us for years to come

We asked a series of parents from around the world to share their stories... What have you learned from your children? Share your stories with us on our Facebook page.

Converse

  • There's nothing better than a family lunch around the kitchen table - telling stories, learning about each other and sharing our stresses.
  • Be there for each other when you need to talk - be present and genuine in those conversations and focus only on the task at hand.

Have fun together

  • Don't take yourself too seriously - have fun, and don't forget your inner child.
  • Children have taught me the meaning of family - through laughter, love and just being together. Treasure the simple things like a walk on a sunny day.
  • They may enjoy 'stuff' they receive, but in the end, it's about the time and moments together.

Times are changing

  • The 'old ways' may not always be as useful as the 'new way' - be flexible in the way you approach situations, don't be stuck in your ways.
  • They'll play the games they want to play - even if you don't buy them guns, they'll make them out of sticks.
  • Appreciate your long school holidays because 28 days holiday does not go very far!

Listen

  • Listen VERY carefully to your children - they are sending you messages all the time.

Warm Fuzzy Feelings

  • You get further with sugar than with vinegar - patience and tolerance with children pays off.
  • Say "I love you" more.

Relax and unwind

  • Reduce Stress - factor in the snail pace from each child in the morning for the school run, and wake them up earlier. It happens, accept it, it will never change!!!!

It's the little things that matter

  • Appreciate the little things in life - children have so much time and love to give no matter what is going on elsewhere and it's incredibly humbling when you're having a bad day/week/month to realise it's the small things in life that are important, through the eyes of a child.
  • It's OK to indulge in your favourite vice when you've had a bad day - chocolate heals everything!
  • Appreciation - they grow up so quickly and each stage that goes by I wish I had been more appreciative and really made the most of them being little.

Think before you speak

  • Recently my daughter told me she didn't need to hang her school uniform up because, I bought it, therefore I own it and should hang it up. So, when I bought her a McDonalds for a treat last week, I went to give it to her, then realised, well I bought it, therefore I own it and I should eat it!

Using Tinies gave me peace of mind and also removed a lot of the stress and administrative side of the process. I could be sure that any CVs sent to me had already been screened for suitability, and that the consultant had already ensured that both I and the potential candidates would be a good fit. I felt that they were really committed to ensuring that I got the best person to help care for my daughter, and that they also understood how nerve wracking an experience it can be for a parent to leave their child with someone.
