Our Favourite Ways of Doing Meatless Monday

Cutting meat out of your routine one day a week is becoming an increasingly popular trend. First there was meatless Monday, now there's Veganuary whose popularity has grown exponentially with participants jumping from 3300 in 2014 to 168,000 in 2018. Whilst it can seem daunting to try and avoid meat even one day a week, it doesn't have to be! And there are so many benefits to be had!

 

Quorn

If you're short of time, then simply swapping meat for Quorn is a very easy and quick way to cut meat out of a meal. Quorn options have multiplied rapidly over the years and are very simple to cook. Just pop into the Quorn section of your supermarket and browse the options!

Squash and other Vegetables

If you're sceptical about the taste of Quorn, then adding a few more vegetables in place of meat is another simple way to do meatless Monday. As discussed earlier, butternut squash is one useful alternative - but really, any vegetable can be a good replacement in the right dish. For instance, if you were planning on making a chicken curry, then you could simply leave the chicken out and replace it with broccoli, peppers and cauliflower for a healthy twist.

Pulses

Lentils and chickpeas are quick, tasty and super healthy. What's more, they can easily be slipped into most dishes. Rather than using mince in fajitas, lentils and chickpeas are an ideal replacement. All you need to do is stir them into your mixture, just as you would with the meat.

Cheese

A cheese substitute for meat can be particularly healthy if you're trying to avoid carbs. Both feta and halloumi are fine replacements for chicken in salads, and make for a very nutritious meal.
