Our Favourite Ways of Helping your Child get Involved with Red Nose Day

Red Nose Day is an event run by the charity Comic Relief that not only raises huge amounts of money for disadvantaged people, but that is exciting and rewarding for everyone to take part in. Founded in 1985 by Richard Curtis and Lenny Henry, Comic Relief managed to take its earnings for charity over a billion pounds. With the biennial event Red Nose Day returning in March 2019, here are our favourite ways that you can join in.

Before you get stuck in, it's rewarding - and serves as extra motivation - to know where your effort and money is going. Comic Relief's aim is to "bring about positive and lasting change in the lives of poor and disadvantaged people, which [they] believe requires investing in work that addresses people's immediate needs as well as tackling the root cause of poverty and injustice". The money goes to a diverse array of crucial projects including allowing children everywhere to thrive, fighting for gender justice and providing safe homes for people - you can browse these here.

Even the smallest gestures can go a long way on Red Nose Day, and these are our favourite ways to get involved.

Help at School

Schools are almost always raising money for Red Nose Day- 2017 saw them donate over 5 million pounds! Fundraising at School can vary from sponsored runs/walks to simply home clothes day. This is the easiest way to encourage your child to take part. All you need is enthusiasm and minimal planning.

Sell Red Noses

If you think your child is a budding entrepreneur they could take the initiative to sell red noses. Simply, you could order red noses from the charity itself for them to sell at school (https://www.comicrelief.com/rednoseday). Raising money in this way is easy and fun- every child loves the novelty of the red nose! As long as you're confident helping your child sort the money each day, this can be a useful way of helping out that doesn't take months of planning.

Bake Sale

This is something that works best when other parents and their children are willing and able to join in. The idea is that everyone bakes a few cakes and comes together to sell them at a small stall, which could be on the school playground or the local park. With a steady stream of customers you can quickly make a lot of money for Red Nose Day, after enjoying the process of baking!

Fundraising Pack

You can also order a free fundraising pack from Comic Relief. Packs are tailored for nurseries, primary and secondary schools, so whichever stage your child is at, they're set up perfectly to help.

And One for Parents Only... A Swear Jar

What better way to raise money and set a great example! This can be a beneficial way of demonstrating your involvement in Red Nose Day to your child, and encourage them to help as well. This can run all year and you can get the children to catch you out!

Tinies are without a doubt the best agency I've ever used. They are caring, committed to high standards and supportive not only in searching for employment but also during. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for work in the childcare sector.
