Job description

 

Room Leader/ Nursery Nurse

Responsible to:
Nursery Manager / Deputy Officers in Charge/ Senior Nursery Nurse.

Purpose of job:
To ensure that all children receive the highest standards of care and education in the room they are leading.

Deploy staff appropriately to ensure that the standards are delivered and maintained within the play room.

Ensure all records of development are fully and accurately maintained by the appropriate staff.
Support and supervise room staff with their day-to-day duries.
To help create a happy and stimulating atmosphere where children can develop to their full emotional, physical, social and intellectual potential in a bright attractive safe and healthy environment.

To give support other work colleagues within the nursery and in their job roles and encourage good staff teamwork.

Main Childcare Duties:
Work alongside the manager and staff team to ensure that the nursery's aims and objectives are fulfilled.

To develop and maintain good relationships and communications with parents/carers to facilitate day-to-day caring needs

To prepare and supervise suitable activities to help create and develop a stimulating environment in which children are encouraged to socialise and develop to their full potential. These could include free play, music, art and craft, storytelling, wall displays etc..

To assess and record the progress of designated children within your care, identify strengths and next steps and to offer stimulating activities to develop both.

To care for the well being of the children including washing them after accidents, administering simple first aid and caring for children taken ill until parents collect them.

To maintain the necessary steps to ensure the management of children's behavior and maintain self control when dealing with difficult or disruptive children.

To support a programme of behaviour management and praise good behaviour.

To help create attractive displays of the children's work which are regularly changed and kept presentable.

To be involved in training of childcare students, and co-operate with student projects.

To set up, serve and sit at lunch with a group of children.

Record accidents/incidents in the individual accident forms' ensuring that a second person signs the accident form to say they witnessed the accident/incident.

To ensure confidentiality of information received.

Look upon the nursery, as a "whole" where can your help be most utilized, be consistently aware of the needs of the children.

Ensure someone known to the nursery collects a child.

To ensure that you fully understand all policies and procedures of The Honey Bee Day Nursery

To ensure the maintenance of a high standard of hygiene, cleanliness and safety in all areas of the nursery and at the end of the day clear equipment away to enable the cleaning staff the opportunity to thoroughly clean the rooms.

General Childcare Duties:
Nursery staff should arrive at nursery allowing sufficient time to make any necessary preparation before the arrival of children.

All staff have a general responsibility for the safety and well being of all the children in the nursery at all times.

We aspire to the highest standards of service and friendliness from all our staff. We expect to maintain at all times a high standard of professionalism especially in relation to work practices, confidentiality and integrity.

It is important that all staff working in the nursery should be committed to equal opportunities and other policies of the nursery.

All staff should be aware of and adhere to the published health and safety policies

To be willing to regularly attend staff meetings, training courses or workshops and parents evenings.
