Job Description

  • Exciting role for a capable housekeeper / nanny to help manage the everyday running of a family-farmhouse in a beautiful area of the Golden Valley on the edge of the Black Mountains in Herefordshire. Detached accommodation available.

    The opportunity entails looking after a pet-friendly family-farmhouse and a mixture of shared/sole charge of three children, a girl aged 8 and boy/girl twins turning 6 years old.

    The housekeeping comprises running the farmhouse, including a converted outbuilding for extra friends/family accommodation, as well as managing cleaners and trades where necessary. The candidate will need to be animal friendly, happy to feed the animals and walk the two family dogs twice a day, comfortable with farm animals and livestock, at ease with helping to check on a few farm-related matters from time to time and generally helpful around the property. Alongside this, keeping the rooms tidy, laundry, food shopping, running errands as necessary, although no ironing.

    Childcare duties include helping to run the children's routine, liaising with after-school clubs as necessary, planning ahead and helping with their homework daily, reading with them everyday, meal prep for the children, batch cooking for the family, organising age-appropriate activities.

    Due to the location and after school clubs, the candidate will be a confident driver in the family's car for work-related activities. The candidate needs to feel comfortable with living on a farm and with life outdoors in a wonderful rural community.

    Accommodation comprises of a beautiful, detached studio cottage with bedroom, own kitchen / living area, bathroom. Super-fast broadband. Pony paddock available if required.

    A self-starting, can do attitude needed. No smoking or vaping, clean driving licence. Ofsted registration useful but not essential.

    Days/Hours: c. 40 hours per week Monday-Wednesday (with a possible half day Thursday), generally between 7.15am-7.15pm depending on afterschool clubs, possibility of gap during the day when the children are at school if the candidate has own pursuits.

    There is an opportunity for some babysitting, weekend hours and holiday travel by mutual agreement but not obligatory.

    Salary: Approx £30,000-£35,000 gross per annum depending on qualifications and experience, competitive package according to the candidate’s abilities.
