What is a doula?
Pre-natal and post-natal doulas
The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek word meaning "a woman who serves". It is now used to refer to a woman who acts as a pre-natal doula, who provides physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and immediately after birth.
A doula can also refer to a post-natal doula who provides emotional and practical support once the baby is born.
Service to find a doula for your family
A post natal doula typically comes to your house, to help with light housework, shopping, cooking, ironing and general assistance with both the baby and any older children. They provide practical advice and support to the new parents.
Doulas tend to work 4-8 hours per day and can be booked to come for short or long periods of time.
